Is Minecraft Cross-Play?

Minecraft is a fun game to play with friends and it does support crossplay so you can play with your friends on different platforms if you have the same version.

Is Minecraft Crossplay?

• If you own the Java Edition, you can only play with others who have the Java Edition.

• The same applies to the Bedrock Edition. If you have different versions, you need to buy the matching one to play together. All Minecraft Bedrock Edition platforms can play together. This includes Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Windows PC, and mobile devices. 

• You need a Microsoft account for this. Your Xbox account, if you have one, will work. Otherwise, you can create one for free here.

After you have a Microsoft account, add the friend you want to play with. This often requires sending a friend invite to their Xbox Gamertag.

Teaming Up: Joining a Friend’s Game

If your friend is hosting a session, you can join directly through the game. These sessions can host up to eight people. If you’re invited, a pop-up will appear for you to accept or decline.

Tips for Inviting Friends to Play Your Game

1. To invite friends, open the start menu in the game. 
2. A sidebar will ask you to invite friends. Click “invite” and add people from your friends list.
3. You can change player permissions in your settings to let friends look around or build and break blocks. You can also give them administrative privileges.
4. Adjust these permissions for each friend by clicking the yellow icon next to their names.

Multiplayer with Realms

Players can join Realms, which are servers always online and don’t need a host to be playing. Realms have a limit of 11 players at the same time. If you can’t join, there might be too many players already.

Setting Up Your Realm

1. Creating a Realm: You can create your own Realm by purchasing a subscription. Choose a unique name and invite your friends.
2. Managing Invitations: As the Realm owner, you can invite or remove players. This can be done through the Friends tab.

Joining a Friend’s Realm

1. Accepting Invitations: When a friend invites you to their Realm, you will get a notification. Accept it to join their Realm.
2. Finding Realms: All the Realms you have been invited to or joined will be listed under the Friends tab.
